Suncheon-style Green Bio, Companies Are Coming First
Investment Rush in Advanced Companies of New Materials and Green Bio
Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced that it will invest 62 billion KRW in the Seungju-eup area, designating it as an innovation hub for the green bio sector.
The city plans to build the nation’s first bioconversion GMP facility and a bio-specialized knowledge industry center to establish a one-stop corporate support process covering raw material supply, materialization, product manufacturing, and distribution, thereby expanding the economic footprint in the green bio field.
At the ‘Suncheon Green Bio Industry Promotion Business Briefing’ held last December, 45 companies and over 150 participants showed strong interest.
On February 7, an MOU for win-win cooperation will be signed with three bio-related companies.
This signals that Suncheon has become an attractive and suitable destination for investment following the completion of a strong residential environment after the Garden Expo.
The city operates the Southern Coast Fermented Food Industry Support Center, established in 2022 to research and industrialize fermented foods using local agricultural specialties, discover fermentation convergence models, and foster specialization. Going forward, it plans to develop the Seungju-eup area as a forward base for green bio, and nurture food tech, beauty tech, and pet tech industries as garden-related secondary industries utilizing local resources, adopting a balanced development strategy that integrates the smart agriculture era and new industrial paradigms.
Additionally, the city is actively preparing for the future by reorganizing the industrial map centered on new industries.
It has newly established four major new industry promotion strategies including magnesium (Mg), robotics, autonomous driving, XR, and UAM, aiming to become a leading animation capital driving digital innovation.
The city plans to develop five new industrial complexes covering 4.28 million square meters (1.3 million pyeong), concentrating cutting-edge technology industries to transform the entire city into a future industry hub and open the path to the future.
