Alibaba Cloud Supports Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games..."Cloud, Transforming Olympic Operations"
Alibaba Cloud announced on the 18th that it will support cloud technology for the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games (Gangwon 2024) to strengthen the digital transformation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
George Zhang, Head of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Global Customer Success Center, explained at a media briefing held at Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, in the morning, "During the Tokyo Olympics held in 2020, we provided various solutions based on cloud innovation," adding, "Since then, there have been several milestones, and now we are working hard to prepare and support the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games."
He continued, "We have been operating the core systems for Olympic operations on the cloud," and said, "This has demonstrated that Olympic operations can be significantly transformed through the cloud."
Alibaba Cloud built a portal for staff and volunteer management. Additionally, the Gangwon 2024 Organizing Committee also built the ticket reservation system on Alibaba Cloud. The ticket reservation system is expected to support more than 460,000 spectators over 14 days.
Furthermore, for the first time, a cloud-based digital torch will be lit alongside the Olympic torch, and the Olympic Broadcasting Service (OBS) Cloud, a broadcasting solution jointly developed by the Olympic Broadcasting Service and Alibaba Cloud, will transmit high-definition live signals to media rights holders through the Live Cloud.
Founded in 2009, Alibaba Cloud provides comprehensive cloud services such as databases, network virtualization services, and large-scale computing. It signed a worldwide partnership with the IOC in 2017 and hosted OBS on the cloud during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Additionally, the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, which opened in September last year, also built its core systems on Alibaba Cloud.
