Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services has published the 'Organic Green Onion Cultivation Manual' for eco-friendly green onion farmers.
View original imageThe Eco-friendly Microorganism Research Institute of the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Technology Center has published an organic cultivation manual for green onion farms that can be utilized by eco-friendly green onion farmers.
This manual includes ▲the current status of green onion cultivation such as income and management conditions of eco-friendly green onion farms ▲cultivation patterns and techniques ▲soil and nutrient management ▲methods for managing pests, diseases, and physiological disorders.
It also introduces exemplary farms in the province to make it easy for farmers interested in organic farming to use. Core technology videos linked to the manual are also provided.
The book and videos are distributed mainly to eco-friendly farms and related organizations through the Gyeonggi-do Eco-friendly Agriculture Research Association. Related information can be found on the agricultural technology portal ‘Nongsaro (nongsaro.go.kr)’.
Jo Chang-hwi, Director of the Research and Development Bureau at the Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We hope that the publication of this manual will help solve various difficulties that eco-friendly green onion farms may face and contribute to the stable production of eco-friendly agricultural products," adding, "We plan to continue expanding the development of eco-friendly cultivation manuals for major crops."

Meanwhile, in 2020, the area of eco-friendly green onion cultivation in the province was 89 hectares, with 689 farms, the largest nationwide. The supply of eco-friendly green onions from Gyeonggi-do to school meals increased from 238 tons in 2018 to 271 tons in 2022.
