Man in His 30s Who Assaulted Singaporean Student Without Cause Arrested in 3 Days
A man in his 30s who assaulted a foreign exchange student while she was walking near a university area in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, has been apprehended by the police.
The Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced on the 16th that they have arrested and are investigating a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of assault.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of assaulting a 24-year-old Singaporean woman, Ms. B, near a crosswalk close to a community center in Hwikyung-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, at around 4:30 p.m. on the 12th.
Police investigations revealed that Mr. A and Ms. B were strangers, and Mr. A reportedly threw 4 to 5 punches toward Ms. B’s face. It is known that Mr. A’s family members who were nearby intervened by holding him back.
After receiving a report from Ms. B, the police tracked Mr. A using CCTV footage and other evidence, and arrested him at around 4:30 p.m. on the 15th in Imun-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, three days after the incident.

A police official stated, "At the victim’s request, we provided a smartwatch and registered her in the 112 system to ensure her safety," adding, "We plan to continue investigating the detailed motives behind the crime."
