On the 11th, Governor Kim held the ‘Northern Gyeonggi Major Development Entrepreneurs Hand-in-Hand Talk’ at the Chaoreum Hall of the Northern Business Headquarters of the Gyeonggi Job Foundation in Uijeongbu City. The talk was conducted in a format where attending entrepreneurs shared the challenges they face operating businesses in northern Gyeonggi, and Governor Kim responded to their concerns.
First, Lee Ho-kyung, CEO of Korea Miracle People Co., Ltd., located in Pocheon Yongjeong Industrial Complex, said, "It is very difficult to find manpower in the northern Gyeonggi region. Students from northern Gyeonggi tend to go to southern Gyeonggi or Seoul, so we receive interns or trainees from universities in Chungcheong Province instead." He suggested, "There is a need for a platform or support projects that connect excellent companies and talent in northern Gyeonggi."
In response, Governor Kim emphasized the necessity of establishing the Northern Special Self-Governing Province by saying, "What Gyeonggi Province is currently promoting with the Northern Special Self-Governing Province is, simply put, a system where people can study and find jobs in their hometown."
There were also young business representatives who raised questions on-site.
Kang Da-eun, CEO of Dankong, a character development startup based in Yangju City, said, "We are engaged in service projects such as character development for the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service youth, and we want to properly develop characters for public institutions." She added, "We want to supply good products to senior welfare centers and orphanages, but we are struggling with market development. We would like to receive support in this area as well."
Lee Jae-ok, CEO of Chaeum Flowerpot, who introduced herself as operating a flowerpot manufacturing business, pointed out the environmental pollution caused by ribbons attached to flowerpots sent for promotions or business openings. She introduced custom flowerpots that can freely include photos or phrases requested by customers and asked, "We need to sell products based on ideas, so please help us receive support."
Entrepreneurs also proposed ▲focused support for the display industry ▲activation of the Goyang Flower Expo ▲support for market development ▲foreign labor supply ▲support for transitioning small and medium enterprises to high value-added businesses and business discovery.
Governor Kim said, "Any entrepreneur in Gyeonggi Province can talk to us anytime, and we will create a platform where all departments and public institutions in Gyeonggi Province can comprehensively solve those problems." He explained, "The platform will play a role in informing why problems cannot be solved within a certain period and what the issues are."
In his opening remarks earlier that day, Governor Kim encouraged entrepreneurs by saying, "The economy is expected to be very difficult this year, but let us join forces to overcome the challenges."
He also said, "If we compare the global economy to short track speed skating, we are currently turning a corner. The best chance to overtake the player ahead is when turning the corner. At times like this, we must take the right path." He emphasized, "Gyeonggi Province is on the right path. Please trust Gyeonggi Province and stay strong. We will break through the difficult situation and create an early dawn and an early spring."
The Northern Gyeonggi Major Development is a policy vision of the 8th Gyeonggi Province administration that aims to awaken the potential of northern Gyeonggi through improvements in transportation infrastructure, job creation, enhancement of quality of life including education and healthcare, and development of ecological tourism resources. Governor Kim intends to realize the northern major development through the establishment of the Northern Special Self-Governing Province.
Gyeonggi Province has continuously communicated with residents over 100 times through vision and development strategy policy research, launching a public-private joint promotion committee, deliberative public surveys, and city and county briefing sessions to establish the Northern Special Self-Governing Province. Additionally, it prepared a vision and roadmap for northern major development and proposed holding a resident referendum on the establishment of the Northern Special Self-Governing Province to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. This year, 485.4 billion KRW will be invested in northern development.
To concretize the vision of northern major development this year, Gyeonggi Province launched a dedicated task force (TF) for northern major development led by the second vice governor for administration and is holding a contest to name the future-oriented Northern Special Self-Governing Province. It is also actively promoting various efforts such as campaigns for common pledges related to the Northern Special Self-Governing Province to advance northern Gyeonggi’s development and the establishment of the Northern Special Self-Governing Province.
