Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) has been actively attracting brands popular among the MZ generation, successfully achieving both increased sales and the influx of new consumers. With these brands launching aggressive promotions such as discounts since the beginning of the new year, their popularity is expected to continue in 2024.
In October last year, Gwangju Shinsegae introduced the fashion brand Matin Kim for the first time in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region. Matin Kim, considered one of the most popular brands among the MZ generation, started in 2015 and rapidly grew to record annual sales of 50 billion KRW in 2022. This popularity is also evident at Gwangju Shinsegae.
Since its opening last year, the 5th-floor store at Gwangju Shinsegae has continuously attracted consumers seeking Matin Kim. Sales in December increased by nearly 20% compared to November, reflecting steady customer interest.
Marking its 100th day since opening on the 19th, Gwangju Shinsegae Matin Kim is welcoming consumers with trendy products and staff who possess exceptional service mindsets, aiming to become the top store nationwide.
Alongside Matin Kim, Marithe Francois Girbaud, which also opened at Gwangju Shinsegae in October last year, is gaining popularity by offering products that align with the Newtro (new + retro) trend. Marithe Francois Girbaud, once worn by celebrities in the 1990s and admired by teenagers and people in their twenties at the time, is now newly spotlighted as it meets the MZ generation’s preference for comfortable attire.
To meet consumer interest, Gwangju Shinsegae Marithe Francois Girbaud is running a discount promotion until the 24th. Notably, the classic logo cropped knit and high straight denim pants are offered at a 20% discount, priced at 103,200 KRW and 129,000 KRW respectively, with the most popular items discounted up to 40%, excluding some products.
Additionally, brands like Maison Kitsun? and Ami, which are usually less active in promotions, have also joined the discount events, broadening consumer choices.
On the 7th floor of the Gwangju Shinsegae main building, the curated shop BEAKER, which introduces various brands, is also offering discounts. BEAKER is a curated shop that carefully selects and presents premium brands such as Ami, Maison Kitsun?, and Auteuil.
Ami sweatshirts are available at 346,500 KRW, down from 495,000 KRW, and Maison Kitsun? shirts can be purchased for 234,500 KRW, reduced from 335,000 KRW, reflecting a 30% discount. Along with this, cardigans and zip-up knits from Ami and Maison Kitsun? will be part of the promotion running until February 29.
Meanwhile, Gwangju Shinsegae will expand its selection of luxury brand Bottega Veneta items favored by MZ consumers by opening the first Bottega Veneta Ready To Wear store in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region on the 2nd floor of the main building on the 12th.
Kim Yoon-chul, head of the fashion team at Gwangju Shinsegae, stated, “By proactively attracting brands preferred by the MZ generation, such as Matin Kim, which was introduced for the first time in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, Gwangju Shinsegae has achieved increased sales and new customer acquisition. We will continue to strive to enhance consumer satisfaction through active promotions and discovering new brands.”
