Boseong Gunnong Port Selected for 'Fisheries Village New Vitality Promotion Project' Two Years in a Row
Securing 5 Billion Won for Infrastructure Improvements to Build a Prosperous Fishing Village
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that ‘Gunnong Port’ was finally selected for the ‘2024 Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project (Type 3)’ hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, achieving the great feat of being selected for the public contest project for two consecutive years.
The ‘Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project’ is a project in which the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries invests 3 trillion KRW in a total of 300 fishing villages over five years starting from 2023. It is promoted in three types: ▲Type 1 Fishing Village Economic Base (Platform), ▲Type 2 Fishing Village Living Base (Platform), and ▲Type 3 Fishing Village Safety Infrastructure Improvement.
Boseong-gun applied for ‘Gunnong Port’ under the Type 3 project of the Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project, overcoming a nationwide competition ratio of about 5:1 to be selected and secured a total project budget of 5 billion KRW.
Last year, Boseong-gun also secured a project budget of 40 billion KRW by having ‘Yulpo Port’ uniquely selected in Jeollanam-do for the Type 1 project contest of the Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project.
Accordingly, under the theme of ‘Expanding fishing space, improving fishing village landscape, and a safe Gunnong Port!’, over three years until 2026, projects such as ▲expansion of Gunnong Port fishing harbor space, ▲roadway expansion, ▲installation of safety facilities, ▲creation of windbreak pine forests and village street rest areas, and ▲construction of Gunnong Port fishermen’s hall and joint workshop will be promoted.
Kim Cheol-woo, Governor of Boseong-gun, said, “We will steadily carry out the ‘Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project’ selected for two consecutive years to realize a ‘prosperous fishing village.’” He added, “We will actively discover projects to improve the quality of life and income development of marine fishing villages and fishermen to breathe new vitality into the fishing village economy.”
Meanwhile, Boseong-gun has been selected for the ‘Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ with two sites in 2019 (Sangjin Port in Beolgyo-eup, Dongyul Port in Hoecheon-myeon), two sites in 2020 (Jangyang Port in Beolgyo-eup, Gunhak Port in Hoecheon-myeon), one site in 2021 (Cheongam Port in Deukryang-myeon), and one site in 2022 (Hosan Port in Beolgyo-eup). Additionally, one site was selected in 2023 for the ‘Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project’ (Yulpo Port in Hoecheon-myeon - Type 1), securing a total project budget of 80 billion KRW for seven sites currently underway.
