The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Expands Oral Hearings and Court-Appointed Attorney System in Administrative Appeals
Improving Convenience in Rights Remedies
The Central Administrative Appeals Commission of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced on the 11th that it will expand the oral hearing system and the court-appointed attorney system for administrative appeals so that any citizen can conveniently assert the illegality or unfairness of administrative dispositions and receive remedies.
Administrative appeals are primarily requested in writing and supplemented with written arguments for prompt and simple remedies. However, applicants without extensive legal knowledge often find it difficult to logically present their claims through writing alone.
Last year, the Central Administrative Appeals Commission established a special agenda expert committee for oral hearings and built a video conferencing system that allows applicants to attend hearings remotely from the Government Seoul Office to the Government Sejong Office. This year, oral hearing participation will be extended to local government offices, and by next year, a mobile video hearing system will be established.
The Central Administrative Appeals Commission operates a court-appointed attorney system that supports the appointment of lawyers for applicants who have difficulty hiring representatives due to financial reasons. This year's budget has increased by 26 million KRW compared to the previous year, which is expected to help more applicants.
