G7-Ukraine Held Secret 'End of War Plan' Meeting Last Month... No Progress Made
Last month, in mid-month, the United States and its major allies held a secret meeting regarding a ceasefire initiative with Ukraine participating, Bloomberg reported on the 9th (local time).
According to the report, the National Security Advisors of the Group of Seven (G7) countries discussed a peace plan with Ukraine on the 16th of last month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Bloomberg stated that the meeting was held secretly to allow for freer and more candid discussions.
In addition to the G7 and Ukraine, officials from India, Saudi Arabia, and T?rkiye, who had attended the 'Ukraine Peace Official National Security Advisors Meeting' held last year, were also present. However, China, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) did not attend, and Russia was excluded from the invitation list.
However, it was reported that aside from reaching a consensus on basic principles, there was little progress made during the meeting. While the G7 and Ukraine expressed the view that Russia was not actively engaged in negotiations, other countries indicated that Ukraine should negotiate directly with Russia.
Accordingly, at the meeting, Ukraine and the G7 only reaffirmed their position that a just peace is necessary to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
