Yeosu Dolsan Nammyeon Selected for Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' 'Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Contest'
Dolsan Impo and Nam-myeon Bongtong to Receive 8.8 Billion KRW Investment by 2026
Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do announced that Impo Port in Dolsan-eup and Bongtong Port in Nam-myeon have been finally selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' ‘2024 Fishing Village Vitalization Promotion Project,’ and will be reborn as vibrant spaces.
The ‘Fishing Village Vitalization Promotion’ project is a key initiative by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to revive fishing villages facing extinction by supporting the creation of economic and living platforms and improving safety infrastructure according to the scale and characteristics of each fishing village.
Following this selection, a total of 8.84 billion KRW, including about 6.2 billion KRW in national funds, will be invested over three years starting this year in the Impo Port area of Dolsan-eup and the Bongtong Port area of Nam-myeon.
In Dolsan-eup Impo Port, 4.9 billion KRW will be allocated for the expansion of breakwaters and piers to create a safer fishing port environment, while 3.9 billion KRW will be provided to Bongtong Port in Nam-myeon to restore its functions through port improvements.
Previously, since April last year, Yeosu City has been preparing for the project by conducting basic surveys, site verification, and consultations with fishing cooperatives, drafting project plans for 10 districts aimed at fisher safety and revitalizing the fishing village economy. As a result, two sites were selected among 18 nationwide candidates across three categories.
Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu City, said, “I deeply thank the fishing cooperatives that actively participated in this project,” and added, “To realize ‘Safer Fishing Ports, Happier Fishing Villages,’ we will do our best in advance preparations and discovering distinctive projects to ensure many sites are selected for next year’s projects.”
