Beware of 'Income Tax Nonpayment Notice' Texts Impersonating the National Tax Service
With the timing of value-added tax filing and year-end tax settlement, there is a concern that various types of malicious emails and text messages impersonating the National Tax Service, such as 'electronic tax invoice issuance' and 'tax audit attendance request notice,' may be distributed, requiring taxpayers to exercise special caution.
The National Tax Service recently warned on the 10th that there was a case of distributing text messages titled 'Income Tax Non-payment Notice' impersonating the National Tax Service, which induced small deposits into accounts under individual names.
If an email prompts you to log in to a portal site, it is a disguised screen, so do not log in, delete the email, and change your portal site password. Also, text messages sent from internet phone numbers or personal mobile phone numbers should be suspected, and you should not transfer national taxes to accounts under individual names. If damage occurs due to impersonating emails or text messages, you can report it to the National Police Agency.

An official from the National Tax Service said, "When recognizing the distribution of malicious emails, we are actively responding by immediately requesting portal sites (such as Naver, Daum) to block the relevant emails," and added, "The National Tax Service will continue to promote proactive administration by strengthening monitoring of impersonating emails to prevent taxpayer damage."
