Lee Ho-gyun, President of Mokpo Science University, Donates the Largest Amount to Hometown Love in Naju City
Lee Ho-gyun, President of Mokpo National University of Science and Technology, was registered as the first high-value donor of the Naju City Hometown Love Donation Program in the new year of Gapjin 2024.
On the 9th, Naju City in Jeollanam-do announced that President Lee donated the maximum limit of 5 million KRW for the Hometown Love Donation Fund.
President Lee is the second son of the late Lee Kyung-su, the founding president of Mokpo National University of Science and Technology and a native of Gongsan-myeon, Naju City. He is also serving as the honorary chairman of the Mokpo-Naju Hometown Association Foundation, maintaining a deep connection with Naju City through his donations.
President Lee said, “I have a heartfelt affection for my father’s hometown and decided to participate in the donation program,” adding, “I hope that the activation of the Hometown Love Donation Program will lead to a more vibrant and lively Naju.”
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae stated, “Thanks to the citizens, hometown supporters, President Lee Ho-gyun, and donors nationwide who show interest and affection for Naju, the Hometown Love Donation Program, which was first implemented last year, has been successfully established,” and added, “We will actively promote the use of the fund so that the donations can be used for hometown development and the welfare of residents.”
Naju City exceeded its target of 1 billion KRW in the first year of implementing the Hometown Love Donation Program in 2023, successfully establishing the system.
The Hometown Love Donation Program, first implemented last year, allows individuals to donate a certain amount (up to 5 million KRW) to regions other than their place of residence, receive tax deduction benefits, and receive return gifts from the donation-receiving region.
This program provides income-generating opportunities for local return gift providers and allows local governments to use the donations as resources for regional development and resident welfare projects, creating a triple benefit.
Naju City offers 34 items as return gifts, including local agricultural specialties, processed foods, and crafts, and plans to continue efforts to discover differentiated return gifts this year.
Additionally, this year’s fund projects include plans to promote the ‘Dream Tree Nest Creation,’ ‘100-Won Laundry Village Joint Operation,’ and ‘Pet-Friendly City Cultural Festival.’
