Re-vote on Double Special Prosecutor Law 'Fails'... Rejected Due to Opposition's Objection to People Power Party's Change of Intent (Update)
On the 9th, the People Power Party attempted to push for a re-vote on the 'Double Special Prosecutor Act' (allegations of stock manipulation involving First Lady Kim Keon-hee and the Daejang-dong 5 billion won club), but it was blocked by the Democratic Party of Korea.
The People Power Party submitted a motion to change the agenda of the plenary session to include a re-vote on the Double Special Prosecutor Act, but it was defeated due to opposition from the Democratic Party.
During the plenary session, each motion to change the agenda was put to a vote, but the 'Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor Act' was rejected with 107 votes in favor, 173 against, and 2 abstentions out of 282 members present. The 'Daejang-dong 5 Billion Special Prosecutor Act' was also rejected with 106 votes in favor, 175 against, and 1 abstention out of 282 members present.
Previously, the Double Special Prosecutor Act was passed in the plenary session on the 28th of last month, led by opposition parties. On the 4th of this month, the National Assembly sent the bill to the government, and on the following day, the 5th, President Yoon Seok-yeol exercised his veto power (reconsideration request).
