No Hee-yong Proposes "Leap in Advanced Education through Attracting AI Gifted High Schools"
No Hee-yong, a preliminary candidate for the Gwangju Dong-gu Nam-gu Eul constituency in the general election representing the Democratic Party of Korea, announced, "As a detailed strategy for the education development special zone, we will attract the Gwangju AI (Artificial Intelligence) Gifted High School to Dongnam-gu and make Gwangju Dong-gu and Nam-gu a hub for advanced education."
The Gwangju AI Gifted High School is a specialized school for nurturing next-generation AI talents, built with a budget of 103.8 billion KRW on a site of 20,040㎡ in Gwangju city, consisting of five buildings with a capacity of 150 students. It will provide AI core technology convergence education using a non-grade and credit-based graduation system. The AI Gifted High School is planned to begin construction in 2025 and open in 2027.
Preliminary candidate No Hee-yong stated, "Dongnam-gu has excellent AI-related education and startup infrastructure, including one AI officer school, one AI startup center, and Chosun University. By linking these, operating the Gwangju AI Gifted High School can transform Dong-gu into a mecca for nurturing outstanding talents who will lead the 21st-century advanced AI industry."
He also said that by attracting the AI Gifted High School to Dongnam-gu, "students who grow up in Dongnam-gu will receive advanced education there and work in high-tech industries such as data centers in Gwangju, enabling them to settle in Dongnam-gu with a high quality of life."
To this end, he said, "We will remodel and reconstruct potentially obsolete spaces such as support middle schools in Dongnam-gu into spaces and buildings for the AI Gifted High School, and simultaneously concentrate AI officer schools near the AI Gifted High School to develop it into a genuine hub for nurturing AI talents in Korea."
In addition, he emphasized, "As a core preliminary strategy of the education development special zone, we will connect the AI Gifted High School, local universities, and AI officer schools to enable AI education from high school through university and post-graduate courses to take place in Dongnam-gu for the first time in the nation."
