Unpaid Maintenance Fees in China for 3 Years Paid with 20,000 Coins... "Counted for Two Days"
Incident Occurred at Commercial Area in Hami City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China
A tenant dissatisfied with a court ruling ordering the payment of overdue maintenance fees took revenge on the landlord by paying with coins.
According to local Chinese media including Gupa News on the 8th, a landlord of a commercial building in China had a hard time because a tenant paid the maintenance fees with 20,000 coins. The incident occurred at a commercial building in Hami City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China. The landlord recently filed a lawsuit against a tenant who had not paid maintenance fees for the past three years.
Holding a grudge against the court ruling in favor of the landlord, the tenant paid the entire overdue maintenance fee of over 20,000 yuan (approximately 3.7 million KRW) in 1 yuan (about 183 KRW) and 5 mao (about 92 KRW) coins. He deliberately exchanged money at the bank for 20,000 coins, filled two bags with them, and brought them to the management office.
An official from the management office complained, "The bag he brought contained over 20,000 coins," and added, "Six employees had to spend a total of 8 to 9 hours over two days counting the coins to verify the amount, to the point their hands cramped."
