Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it has converted the women-only parking spaces in 10 public parking lots within the district into family-friendly parking spaces to accommodate various transportation-vulnerable groups.
Family-friendly parking spaces are parking spots that expand the target users of women-only parking spaces to include pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and those who have difficulty moving in daily life, as well as their companions, in response to the aging population and low birthrate era.
Accordingly, on December 28, the district partially amended the "Songpa-gu Parking Lot Installation and Management Ordinance" to establish the legal basis for installing family-friendly parking spaces. Through this ordinance revision, the district created family-friendly parking spaces with a total of 254 spots across 10 public parking lots.
Family-friendly parking spaces are installed in bright areas without blind spots and in sections close to parking lot entrances, elevators, or stairs to ensure accessibility and safety. To make them easily recognizable upon entering the parking lot, the parking lines are marked with a flower wall yellow-brown solid line on a white background, along with a family-friendly parking space symbol.
By the first half of this year, all 230 women-only parking spaces in 11 public parking lots in the area will be converted into family-friendly parking spaces. As a result, the district plans to create a total of 484 parking spaces across 21 public and affiliated parking lots.
Furthermore, the district will encourage the establishment of family-friendly parking spaces in private parking lots, especially in multi-use facilities such as large supermarkets, to enhance the satisfaction of various drivers and passengers who require consideration in daily life.
