Goheung-gun Expands Support for Incoming Households
Households with One or More New Residents, 100,000 Won Per Person
Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it has upgraded the Population Policy Department from the Population Policy Division to the Population Policy Office and will significantly expand the “2024 Support Targets and Subsidies for Incoming Households.”
According to the county, the support target for incoming households in 2024 will be expanded from the original two or more persons to one or more persons per household, and the subsidy amount will also be provided at 100,000 KRW per person depending on the number of people in the incoming household, instead of 200,000 KRW per household.
Goheung-gun has seen an increase in single-person households moving in, such as retirees from urban areas who want to enjoy rural life after retirement. However, the support criteria for incoming households (including automobile tax and resident tax) have been limited to households of two or more persons, raising ongoing concerns about fairness with single-person incoming households.
Accordingly, after internal review last year and consultations with the Goheung-gun Council, the Goheung-gun Population Policy Support Ordinance was amended to establish the basis for supporting incoming households of one or more persons moving in after January 1, 2024.
The support target is households with one or more persons who had their resident registration in another city, county, or district for more than one year as of the moving-in date and moved to Goheung-gun after January 1, 2024, with more than six months elapsed.
The subsidy amount will be paid at 100,000 KRW per person without an upper limit on the number of incoming household members, and local taxes such as automobile tax (up to 100,000 KRW per household, one-time) and individual resident tax (for three years) will also be supported separately.
Gong Young-min, Governor of Goheung-gun, said, “In 2024, along with our county’s future strategy’s three major industries (space launch vehicles, drones & UAM, smart farms), we plan to promote population increase and regional economic revitalization as key core tasks of county administration.” He added, “We will devise various measures to activate the attraction of incoming population, such as ‘Visiting Return-to-Hometown and Rural Living Briefings’ and the ‘Goheung Love Address Campaign.’”
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun is solidifying its status as Korea’s number one destination for return-to-farming and rural living, having ranked first nationwide in the “2023 Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Return-to-Farming and Rural Living Attraction Support Project Performance Evaluation” and first in the “2023 Jeollanam-do Return-to-Farming and Rural Living Comprehensive Evaluation.”
