Gwangju Seo-gu Seobitmaru Library Operates Immersive Experience Center "Silgam Seojae"

Seobu District Office of Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Ikang) is operating ‘Seobitmaru Immersive Library,’ the first immersive experience center in the Gwangju area.

According to Seobu District on the 4th, Seobitmaru Immersive Library was the only one selected among the five autonomous districts in Gwangju in the public library immersive experience center creation support project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It has been established as a permanent exhibition space where visitors can experience a new future-oriented library through various immersive contents.

The space consists of ▲‘Future of Search,’ where visitors can experience a new search environment through the linkage of a media wall and a multi-touch table ▲‘Digital Book,’ which vividly reproduces old books such as Donguibogam and Muyedobotongji digitally ▲‘Interactive Map,’ where visitors can closely examine old maps held by the National Library of Korea, such as Suseonjeondo and Mokjangjido.

The Immersive Library operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, and is closed on the second and fourth Mondays and public holidays.

Seobu District plans to provide more immersive content to residents by utilizing the National Library of Korea’s immersive library contents and developing its own contents in the future.

District Mayor Kim Ikang said, “We will spare no support to help users experience the future reading environment and enjoy a new reading culture through Seobitmaru Immersive Library.”

Meanwhile, Seobitmaru Library has been open and operating since July last year, and this year it plans to hold monthly regular performances in various fields such as puppet shows, fusion gugak, and band performances to provide visitors with diverse programs to enjoy.
