Over 40 Vehicles Involved in Accident... 14 Injured
On the 4th, around 40 vehicles collided due to black ice on Geumbitnoeul Bridge and Aramchan Bridge in Sejong City, resulting in 14 injuries. At approximately 5:24 a.m., about 30 vehicles crashed consecutively on Geumbitnoeul Bridge in Sejong-dong, Sejong City. Five drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment following this accident.
Additionally, at 6:27 a.m., an eight-vehicle pileup occurred on Aramchan Bridge near Geumbitnoeul Bridge, injuring nine people. All 14 injured from the two accidents are reported to have sustained minor injuries. The aftermath of the accidents has caused severe traffic congestion in the area.
At around 6:56 a.m., Sejong City sent a safety alert message stating, "Traffic accidents are occurring due to fog in certain sections and black ice on the bridges." Later, at approximately 7:40 a.m., another message was sent saying, "Both directions of Geumbitnoeul Bridge and Aramchan Bridge are currently closed due to black ice-related accidents. Please take detours and drive slowly."
It was reported that the black ice on the bridges where the accidents occurred was so severe that walking was difficult. Black ice refers to a road icing phenomenon where a thin layer of ice forms on the road surface due to rain or snow. It is considered a major cause of traffic accidents during winter.

Lee Eunhong (38), a Sejong City resident who was at the scene, said, "The road is so slippery that cars cannot move at all," adding, "I gave up on going to work today." The police are investigating the exact cause of the accidents by interviewing witnesses and others involved.
