Last Year, 185 Schools' Parents and 6 Meetings
More Than Half of 392 Suggestions Addressed Directly
"The city will do its best to contribute to the advancement of education."
Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, has opened the mayor’s office door wide to improve the local educational environment. He has held individual meetings with principals and parents from schools at all levels within the jurisdiction, and is directly addressing and seeking solutions to the suggestions raised by schools and parents.

According to Yongin City on the 4th, among the 392 suggestions raised during meetings held by Mayor Lee with principals and parent association presidents of 185 elementary, middle, and high schools in the area from September to October last year, 55% were either completed or are currently being addressed by the end of last year.
Earlier, in the first half of last year, Mayor Lee held six meetings with principals of 185 schools, followed by six meetings with parent association presidents of schools at all levels in the second half. A total of 392 suggestions were raised during these meetings. Of these, 154 have been completed, and 35 are currently being explored for concrete solutions. The city recently communicated the results of actions taken, progress, and future plans regarding these suggestions to each school and parent association presidents via official letters and phone calls.
Mayor Lee has especially been personally inspecting sites to resolve issues following the meetings. Last year, he visited 28 schools to check on the suggestions.

In fact, Yongin City has carried out various school educational environment improvement projects reflecting parents’ suggestions.
Stairs near Sohyeon Elementary and Middle Schools in Sanghyeon-dong, Suji-gu were repaired, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) and emergency bells were installed. Traffic facilities such as guiding poles to prevent illegal parking and ensure pedestrian safety were installed at the back gate of Sinwol Elementary School in Suji-gu and the crosswalk in front of Suji High School.
On the road near Yongin High School, where safety concerns arose due to vehicle traffic in front of the main gate, the city invested 180 million KRW to create a ‘pick-up and drop-off zone’ for students. In front of Wonsam Elementary School, where construction vehicle traffic is frequent, new school zone markings were installed to improve the safety environment for students commuting to school.
At the children’s park near Gwankok Elementary School, where there were opinions about a lack of resting spaces, facilities were replaced and newly installed. Additional security lights were installed around Singal Elementary School, where there had been concerns about insufficient lighting.

Mayor Lee said, "In the new year, I will hold meetings again with principals and parent association presidents of schools at all levels to listen to each school’s concerns," adding, "We will do our best to do whatever the city can to promote educational development."
