Apprehended on Scene... Also Found Carrying a Blunt Weapon at the Time
An octogenarian who harbored resentment after being expelled from a senior citizens' center and assaulted and threatened other elderly individuals was apprehended by the police.
On the 3rd, the Guro Police Station in Seoul announced that they had booked and were investigating an 80-year-old man identified as A on charges including special assault, special threats, and trespassing, related to an incident on the previous day (the 2nd). A is accused of spraying insecticide spray into the eyes of victim B at a senior citizens' center in an apartment complex in Guro-gu around 8:40 a.m. the day before, and striking B's head with the spray can.
Additionally, when victim C, who was with B, tried to escape, A chased after him while threatening, "I will kill you." He is also accused of visiting the homes of two other victims, wielding blunt weapons such as a hammer, and assaulting them with his fists. Police who responded to victim B's report apprehended A at the scene. It was reported that A was carrying a blunt weapon at the time of arrest.
Investigations revealed that A committed the crimes out of anger after being expelled last August under the rules for repeatedly engaging in drinking, smoking, and gambling at the apartment senior citizens' center. The police investigating the case have applied for an arrest warrant for A, and a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) was held this afternoon. A's detention status is expected to be decided by late afternoon at the earliest.

Meanwhile, under the Criminal Act, assault (폭행죄) is defined as the crime of inflicting violence on a person's body. Assault includes any unlawful use of physical force against the body, and it is not necessary for the act to result in injury. Assault is punishable by imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine, detention, or penalty not exceeding 5 million won. Furthermore, assault is a so-called semi-complaint offense, meaning that prosecution cannot proceed against the explicit wishes of the victim.
