KT&G Signs Renewable Energy PPA... "Replacing 7.5% of Annual Power Consumption"
Projected Reduction of 6460 tCO2 in Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Contributing to Carbon Neutrality through RE100
KT&G announced on the 3rd that it has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to practice carbon neutrality.
A PPA is a system where users purchase electricity from renewable energy power producers. KT&G recently signed a purchase agreement to receive renewable power from SK E&S. Through this contract, KT&G expects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6,640 tCO2 by replacing 7.5% of its total electricity consumption with renewable energy. KT&G plans to continue expanding its use of renewable energy through additional PPA contracts.
In addition to adopting PPAs, KT&G installs solar power plants on idle spaces such as rooftops and parking lots of manufacturing plants and consumes the renewable energy produced there internally. Thanks to these efforts, the proportion of renewable energy use across all business sites increased from 0.1% in 2020 to 15.6% in 2022, and it is estimated that it exceeded 20% last year.
