Starting next year, foreign workers will be allowed to work in restaurants experiencing a shortage of domestic workers.
On the 31st, the Ministry of Economy and Finance published a booklet titled 'Changes Starting from 2024' containing this information.
From 2024, the 'Food Service Industry' will be newly added as an industry permitted to employ foreign workers under the Employment Permit System (E-9). The allowed job position is kitchen assistant, and the industry is Korean food restaurants. The government expects that improving foreign workforce employment in the food service industry will help alleviate labor shortages caused by domestic workers avoiding employment in this sector.
Introduction of 'Rural Home-Visit Medical Bus' Providing Oriental and Western Medicine, Dental, and Ophthalmic Examinations in Rural Areas
A 'Rural Home-Visit Medical Bus' that provides necessary medical services such as Oriental and Western medical care, dental, and ophthalmic examinations in rural areas lacking medical infrastructure will be introduced in March next year.
The Rural Home-Visit Medical Bus is introduced to provide necessary medical services for disease prevention and management of rural residents, aiming to eliminate medical blind spots.
The government expects that with the implementation of the Rural Home-Visit Medical Bus project (budget of 3.2 billion KRW in 2024), medical accessibility in rural areas will improve and residents' quality of life will be enhanced.
Expansion of Animal Hospitals Required to Post Treatment Fees in Advance
Starting January next year, the requirement to post treatment fees in advance will be expanded from animal hospitals with two or more veterinarians to all animal hospitals.
According to the enforcement of the amended Veterinarian Act, animal hospital operators must post the current treatment fees (fees by treatment item) so that pet owners can be informed in advance.
