It is a world-class research institution in the field of geriatric medicine, possessing Asia's best biobank for longevity medical research.
The center conducts integrated aging research including elucidation and regulation of aging mechanisms, identification of pathogenic mechanisms of geriatric diseases and development of prevention and treatment methods, development of necessary support devices for elderly living, medical care, and nursing, rehabilitation medicine and elderly-related policy research, as well as linking community elderly-related health and welfare resources.
Recently, Hidenori Arai, Chairman of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, and Hiroyuki Shimada, Director of the Center, visited Dong-A University and met with President Lee and Director Park Hyun-tae of the Office of External and International Affairs to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions.
Earlier in April, Dong-A University signed an agreement with the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology focusing on research and development and joint research to prepare for a super-aged society, as well as personnel exchanges, centered on the ‘Digital Healthcare Research Institute,’ ‘BK21 Four Future Environment Bio-defense Convergence Project Group,’ and ‘LINC3.0 Biohealth ICC.’
During this visit, the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology also signed an agreement with Dong-A University Medical Center to promote industry-academia-research-hospital (industry-university-research institute-hospital) cooperation.
This collaboration is expected to provide an opportunity for the two institutions to actively conduct joint research and personnel exchanges in geriatric medicine and related fields, seeking innovative solutions to prepare for a super-aged society.
President Lee said, “I sincerely welcome the visit of Chairman Hidenori Arai and Director Hiroyuki Shimada. Let us combine Dong-A University’s expertise in aging science, digital healthcare, and biohealth with the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology’s international research capabilities to cooperate in advancing medical science and technology and contributing to the realization of a healthy longevity society.”
