Busan City Selects 'Citizen Sympathy Administration Best' Shining in 2023

Selection of Policy Achievements in Global Hub and Citizen Happiness Areas
Busan City announced the ‘2023 Citizen Consensus Best Policies,’ which led Busan’s growth and citizens’ happiness throughout the year, based on a citizen survey conducted through the city’s website and opinions from journalists and others.
A total of 3,238 participants, including citizens, employees, and journalists, took part in this survey, expressing strong support for 12 tasks across two main categories: ▲Global Hub and ▲Citizen Happiness.
The Global Hub category encapsulates Busan’s vision and dynamism for 2023, highlighting achievements aimed at transforming Busan into a city capable of functioning as a world-class hub.
Selected achievements include: ▲Finalizing the roadmap for the early opening of Gadeokdo New Airport by 2029 and the enactment of the Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Corporation Act, marking the full-scale promotion of the airport’s expedited construction ▲The vertical rise in Busan’s city brand value achieved through the bid for the 2030 World Expo and overall innovation efforts in city administration ▲Attracting corporate investments totaling a record 4 trillion KRW, including three major conglomerates ▲Laying the foundation for becoming a global financial hub with the Korea Development Bank’s relocation to Busan entering the main track ▲Leading South Korea’s power semiconductor industry through the designation of a specialized power semiconductor complex ▲Winning nine awards in the tourism sector, the highest number of domestic and international recognitions ever received.
The Citizen Happiness category includes achievements aimed at improving citizens’ living environments and enhancing their sense of happiness and satisfaction as Busan residents, striving to make Busan a city where people want to live again.
Selected achievements include: ▲Creating a detailed Busan-style childcare environment by expanding support for multi-child families from three children to two ▲Leading the 15-minute living zone initiative that newly connects roads and spaces ▲Reducing medical disparities by expanding public medical infrastructure in East and West Busan ▲The entry of the perennial championship contender KCC Egis basketball team into Busan ▲Selection of ‘Busan~Yangsan~Ulsan Metropolitan Railroad Construction’ and ‘Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line’ as projects subject to preliminary feasibility studies ▲Innovations in public transportation, including the nation’s first integrated public transportation discount system, Dongbaek Pass, and the first-ever free fares for children in a metropolitan city.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun evaluated, “In 2023, we focused on enhancing Busan’s city brand value and strengthening competitiveness,” adding, “We will continue to develop policies that citizens resonate with and concentrate all city administration capabilities to leap forward as a global hub city and Asia’s happiest city.”
