Meta fined 8.4 billion KRW for 'gambling advertisement posting' charges in Italy
Meta, the operator of Facebook and Instagram, has been hit with a heavy fine in Italy for posting gambling advertisements.
Italy's Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) announced on the 22nd (local time) that it imposed a fine of 5.85 million euros (approximately 8.4 billion KRW) on Meta, the operator of Facebook and Instagram, for posting gambling advertisements.
Since 2018, Italy has banned gambling advertisements across all media, including social media (SNS).
AGCOM stated, "We found promotional materials or other advertisements related to gambling (including indirect advertising) on 18 profiles/accounts (13 on Facebook, 5 on Instagram) and 32 sponsored contents."

The commission recently also imposed fines on YouTube and Twitch, the internet broadcasting platform owned by American Amazon.com, for similar offenses.
