Gochang-gun Selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Signboard Improvement Contest'

Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do announced on the 22nd that it has secured 298 million KRW in national funding after being selected for the ‘2024 Signboard Improvement Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Through this signboard improvement project selection, the county will promote signboard improvements in Haeri-myeon, located in the ‘Seonunsan Provincial Park area.’

By renovating beautiful signboards, the project aims to create a pleasant street environment and revitalize the local commercial district, which has been stagnant due to the spread of COVID-19.

With the selection in this contest, the county plans to invest a total of 500 million KRW to improve the streetscape by replacing old signboards and renovating building facades for about 70 buildings and 80 commercial establishments along an 800-meter section of Jungang-ro in Haeri-myeon.

The project will remove disorderly signboards from the aging stores along Jungang-ro, the central commercial area of Haeri-myeon, Gochang, and install distinctive signboards that harmonize with the surrounding environment.

Additionally, to create a clean and safe ‘distinctive street,’ the project will be carried out as a resident-participatory initiative, gathering voluntary resident participation and opinions from the preparation stage.

A county official stated, “We will develop signboard designs by reflecting the opinions of outdoor advertising experts and business owners as much as possible, designate the project area as a pilot zone for advertising and other improvements, and create a ‘beautiful and distinctive Haeri Jungang-gil street’ to promote it as a local attraction.”
