Seongdong-gu's Top Teen News: No.1 Basement Housing Environment Improvement Project
Following the improvement project for semi-basement housing environments, the 2nd place is the establishment of a crime prevention system on walking trails, 3rd place is the operation of a smart snow removal system... 4th place is the installation of Seongdong-type smart smoking booths, followed by the 5th place opening of Seongsu Cultural and Arts Square temporarily utilizing the old Sampyo site
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) conducted a survey on the policies that resonated most with residents among the major projects promoted this year and announced the results of the top 10 news.
This year, the ‘Seongdong-type Semi-basement Housing Environment Improvement Project’ through public-private collaboration took the honorable first place. Following the nationwide first full survey of semi-basement houses after the heavy rain in the summer of 2022, it gained residents' support through the installation of flood prevention facilities and the enactment of ordinances supporting vulnerable housing.
Next, the ‘Establishment of Crime Prevention System on Walking Trails’ to alleviate residents' anxiety took second place. In response to a series of abnormal motive crimes, Seongdong-gu’s idea to use smartphones as real-time CCTV demonstrated its commitment to residents' safety.
Following that, the operation of a smart snow removal system, including automatic brine spraying devices and road heating cables, ranked third. To prepare for sudden heavy snowfall and road icing, road heating cables were expanded on steep slopes, and automatic brine spraying devices were installed where heating cables were difficult to set up, creating an intelligent snow removal system.
Next, the installation of Seongdong-type smart smoking booths, a space where both smokers and non-smokers can be happy, took fourth place. After a pilot installation in Seongsu-dong, complaints, which averaged 170 cases per year, disappeared, and the booths received positive responses from users and residents. Fifth place went to the Seongsu Culture and Arts Yard, opened last October on the former Sampyo site, where a performance venue, public parking lot, and lawn yard were created, and Seongdong-gu plans to use it temporarily for about two years.
Other rankings included ▲6th place for improvements in transportation facilities creating a pedestrian-centered safe traffic environment ▲7th place for the safe relocation of merchants in Majang Food Alley ▲8th place for the cultural industry creative festival ‘Creative×Seongsu’ advancing the smart cultural city ▲9th place for the opening of the ‘Wagle Wagle’ library specialized for people with developmental disabilities ▲10th place for the expansion of free shingles vaccination policy for seniors aged 65 and over.
The top 10 news of the year was selected through an online survey conducted for Seongdong-gu residents and employees from December 1 to 12, lasting 12 days. Among 20 major policies of Seongdong-gu, participants could select up to five projects per person, resulting in a total of 9,330 votes.
