District Mayor Jeon Seong-su: "We Will Create a More Integrity-Driven Public Service Culture to Deliver Trusted Administration to Residents"
Seong-su Jeon, Mayor of Seocho District, received the Grand Prize in the Public Service category at the ‘13th Korea Anti-Corruption Integrity Awards 2023’ ceremony hosted by the Korean Association for Anti-Corruption Policy on the 19th.
The ‘Korea Anti-Corruption Integrity Awards’ is an award presented by the Korean Association for Anti-Corruption Policy to politicians, public officials, and various figures who have contributed to national development by establishing transparent and fair politics, administration, and socio-cultural practices.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su of Seocho District, who took office in July last year, received high praise from the judges for promoting various anti-corruption and integrity policies aimed at creating and spreading an honest organizational culture and implementing transparent and fair integrity administration under the slogan ‘Seocho, happy today and looking forward to tomorrow.’
As a new integrity policy for the 8th local government term, the district established and operated the ‘Seocho Anti-Corruption and Integrity Promotion Team’ led by the mayor to focus on key areas such as subsidies and permits, and conducted ‘Corruption Risk Diagnosis and Feedback’ to pre-assess the personal integrity of senior officials and encourage autonomous self-management.
In addition, efforts are being made to foster a culture of integrity where the mayor and senior officials take the lead by expanding the ‘Integrity Letter Relay,’ where the mayor and public officials at grade 5 or higher write and communicate integrity messages directly.
Along with this, the district is leading smooth communication and protection of rights with residents and job-related parties through initiatives such as the launch of the ‘Seocho District Ombudsman’ in February this year, which can conduct objective audits and independent duties, and the operation of the ‘Integrity Triangle,’ which visits construction sites directly to improve unfair or inconvenient issues.
Furthermore, the district continuously strives to establish Seocho as the ‘Integrity No. 1 Zone’ through various policies such as the ‘Integrity Talk Concert,’ which includes performances linked to integrity and dialogue time with the mayor; ‘Integrity Day,’ which broadcasts the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s ‘Integrity Song’ once a month on internal broadcasts; and ‘Public Service Leader Integrity Broadcast On Air,’ where the mayor personally becomes a ‘One-day Integrity DJ’ to deliver integrity messages to employees.
