Kim Hyun-gi, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, will visit Vietnam for 3 nights and 4 days from the 17th to the 20th upon the official invitation of the Hanoi People's Council and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council delegation will first meet with Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Chairperson of the Hanoi People's Council, and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen friendly cooperation.
At the request of the Hanoi side, the delegation consists of three standing committee members related to the establishment of the metropolitan area law, urban planning master plan formulation, and transportation infrastructure construction.
This visit follows Hanoi People's Council's request to promote the signing of the MOU within the year. The two councils have been actively discussing the signing of the MOU to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Korea-Vietnam diplomatic relations in 2022.
Earlier in August, Pham Quy Thien, Vice Chairperson of the Hanoi People's Council, who visited the Seoul Metropolitan Council, expressed the intention to sign an MOU with the Seoul Metropolitan Council on behalf of Chairperson Nguyen Ngoc Tuan and expressed a desire to invite the council delegation to Hanoi within the year.
In particular, during the Vice Chairperson's visit, the Hanoi People's Council requested to learn advanced administration such as Seoul's urban planning and transportation infrastructure construction for the enactment of the metropolitan area law.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council delegation will also meet Dinh Tien Dung, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee (Member of the Political Bureau), to share the contents of the MOU and discuss areas of exchange and cooperation between the two cities.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council delegation will also visit the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, the economic capital of Vietnam. This is a reciprocal visit following the invitation from Nguyen Thi Le, Chairperson of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, who visited the Seoul Metropolitan Council last September.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council plans to strengthen friendly cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City, the economic capital, to support economic exchanges such as the entry of Seoul startups into Vietnam.
The
Chairperson Kim Hyun-gi said, “Cooperation between the two countries has been further strengthened on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Korea-Vietnam diplomatic relations last year,” adding, “The council, as the representative institution of the capital Seoul, will also promote friendly cooperation with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City accordingly.”
In particular, with Hanoi, efforts will be made to regularize exchanges between the councils and promote follow-up projects so that the MOU can lead to practical legislative cooperation.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council plans to diversify exchange regions and fields with overseas city councils by signing MOUs and discovering follow-up projects with cities that have long cooperated.
