The Daegu Jung-gu Election Commission announced on the 14th that the by-election for the Jung-gu Council member (Jung-gu Ga electoral district) will be held on January 31 next year.
This by-election is being held due to vacancies of 2 out of the 7 council members of the Jung-gu Council. The election date decision follows Article 201 of the Election Act, which stipulates that when a by-election is held due to vacancies of one-fourth or more of the local council members, the election must be held within 60 days from the date the reason for holding the election is confirmed.
The registration period for preliminary candidates for this by-election began on December 11, when the reason for holding the election was confirmed.
Those wishing to register as preliminary candidates must submit documents related to eligibility for election, such as a family relation certificate, criminal record certificates, and proof of formal education to the Jung-gu Election Commission, and pay a deposit of 400,000 KRW (20% of the candidate deposit of 2,000,000 KRW).
