Hyundai Motor Group Confirmed as Winner of Utility Category in US Car of the Year Awards
Hyundai Motor Group has confirmed its win in the utility category of the '2024 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY)'.
On the 13th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that three models made the final shortlist for the 2024 North American Car of the Year utility category: Hyundai Kona (including EV), Kia EV9, and the electrified Genesis GV70.
Previously, the final nominees for the 2024 North American Car of the Year utility category included the Kia EV9, Genesis GV70, and Volvo EX30. However, since customer deliveries of the Volvo EX30 in the U.S. will not occur until 2024, it lost its eligibility for the award, and Kona took its place. As a result, Hyundai Motor Group has secured the award in the utility category regardless of the official announcement of the North American Car of the Year winners.
Last year, Hyundai Motor Group also won the 2023 North American Car of the Year with the EV6. With this confirmed win, Hyundai Motor Group achieves the record of winning five times in the past six years. This is the eighth time Hyundai Motor Group has won the North American Car of the Year. Previous winners include the 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedan (BH), 2012 Hyundai Avante, 2019 Genesis G70, Hyundai Kona, 2020 Kia Telluride, and 2021 Hyundai Avante.
The 'North American Car of the Year' is recognized as the highest authority in the automotive industry, often called the Oscars of the car world. The North American Car of the Year selection committee was established in 1994 and has been selecting the best vehicles released each year for 30 years. Originally, the awards were given in two categories: passenger cars and trucks. However, since 2017, with sport utility vehicles (SUVs) becoming an industry trend, a utility category was added.
