The K-eLearning Awards were established to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the enactment of the e-learning industry development law and to expand the overseas advancement of domestic e-learning technologies. The awards evaluate and recognize excellence in content, services, and talent development among domestic universities, public institutions, and e-learning specialized companies.

The two grand prize-winning institutions stated that they have been striving to introduce technology into the education field. Ryu Yeon-seok, head of the Smart Learning Department at Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power’s Talent Development Institute, said, "As a public institution operating highly advanced systems, we have many mandatory trainings for employees," adding, "It was difficult to acquire necessary information when collaborating with personnel outside one’s own field." He continued, "To solve this problem, we converted work-related learning materials into text and stored them, and introduced AI to enable searching of educational materials," explaining, "We restructured long videos into 3-6 minute segments to enable microlearning."

Lee Min-woo, director of the Educational Innovation Office at Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, said, "As a leading institution in online education, we considered how to integrate science and technology into education," adding, "We conducted attempts such as applying actual VR to class content." He also said, "In language department classes such as Vietnamese and Chinese, we linked 360-degree VR materials with learning so that students can fully experience the local environment without going there," and added, "We are continuously expanding subjects suitable for VR characteristics."

The employees of the grand prize-winning institutions actively worked to apply e-learning to on-site education. Lee explained, "Not only students but also professors are studying e-learning," and added, "Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies has students of various age groups, and we are helping older students adapt by providing both traditional learning materials and VR materials concurrently."
