On the 11th, Samyang Inochem, a chemical subsidiary of Samyang Group, held a certificate awarding ceremony for the 'ISCC Plus' certification of Isosorbide with Control Union, the global agency of ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification), at Samyang Group headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
ISCC Plus is an international certification system granted to sustainable and low-carbon products that comply with the European Union (EU)'s Renewable Energy Directives (RED). Established by ISCC, an internationally trusted organization in the field of eco-friendly certification, it rigorously evaluates the entire supply chain from raw material procurement to production and sales before granting certification.
The Isosorbide certified this time by Samyang Inochem is a 100% biomass-based eco-friendly material chemically processed from starch extracted from plant resources such as corn. It is used to replace conventional petrochemical materials in the production of plastics, coatings, and more, and Samyang Inochem is the only producer in Korea. Plastics made using Isosorbide not only contribute to carbon emission reduction but also exhibit excellent transparency, durability, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and adhesion, making them versatile for use in electronics, automotive interior and exterior materials, food containers, construction materials, and more.
Kang Hoseong, CEO of Samyang Inochem, said, "With this ISCC Plus certification, we have laid the foundation for the global expansion of Isosorbide," adding, "We will accelerate the global advancement of Isosorbide and continuously expand the eco-friendly specialty materials business by applying it to various products."

Samyang Group is actively pursuing product development based on the characteristics and excellence of Isosorbide. Last year, they developed and began mass production of eco-friendly adhesives for electric vehicles, applied light transmittance improvers using Isosorbide to develop high-transmittance polycarbonate for automotive daytime running lights that increases light transmittance and reduces yellowness. Additionally, they are gradually expanding its applications by developing thermal management materials for electric vehicle batteries.
