The government has stepped up to provide housing support for wounded veterans who have suffered physical and mental disabilities while serving the nation but have not been recognized as national merit recipients.

View original imageOn the 10th, Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited a specialized purchased rental housing (Hero Youth Housing) in Sinjeong-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, and met with young wounded veterans scheduled to move in. At the event, Minister Won expressed his intention to not only provide thorough housing support but also to expand the supply of Hero Youth Housing nationwide.
Hero Youth Housing is provided through collaboration between the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Youth Wounded Veterans Counseling Center to young wounded veterans who are in the blind spots of housing welfare. The housing visited on this day is the first case. Currently, seven residents live there, and in addition to housing support, psychological counseling and employment assistance are also provided.

The move-in ceremony was attended by wounded veterans, the president of the Cheonan Ship Survivors Association, and the director of the Seoul Youth Wounded Veterans Center. Minister Won said, "We owe a debt to the young people who were injured while protecting the country, and it is fortunate that the state can repay at least part of it." He added, "Using this housing as a milestone, we will work closely with related agencies to expand Hero Youth Housing and carefully ensure that veterans' benefits are strengthened."
