Pohang City Receives Excellence Award in This Year’s Gyeongbuk Province Energy Awards Evaluation
Recognition of Achievements in Discovering Special Policies for Hydrogen Energy and Renewable Energy Expansion
Pohang City received the Excellence Award on the 7th at the ‘2023 Gyeongsangbuk-do Energy Awards’ evaluation hosted by Gyeongbuk Province and organized by the Korea Energy Agency Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters.

View original imageThe ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Energy Awards’ is an award that evaluates outstanding policies based on a total of eight criteria for 22 cities and counties within the province: ▲promotion of rational energy use ▲education and publicity in the energy sector ▲energy-saving projects ▲renewable energy dissemination projects ▲discovery of energy policies and system improvements ▲energy-saving inspections and crackdowns ▲safety inspections of renewable energy facilities ▲resident participation and contribution to policy achievement.
In this evaluation, the city was recognized for its achievements in hydrogen energy projects through the proactive establishment of hydrogen industry development plans such as the Pohang City Hydrogen Industry Promotion Plan and the Hydrogen City Creation Master Plan, including ▲establishment of a hydrogen fuel cell cluster ▲creation of a hydrogen city ▲support for building a hydrogen fuel cell certification center ▲training of hydrogen energy specialists ▲operation of the hydrogen industry council.
Additionally, the city’s efforts in promoting renewable energy dissemination and discovering its own special policies, such as ▲carbon-neutral energy transition villages ▲renewable energy convergence and complex projects ▲roof-type solar power projects ▲carbon-neutral green remodeling projects, also received attention.
In particular, the hydrogen fuel cell cluster construction project, which was promoted as a key project together with Gyeongbuk Province, passed the preliminary feasibility study on July 20 and will invest a total project cost of 191.8 billion KRW over five years from 2024 to 2028 to establish ▲a company agglomeration core ▲a parts and materials performance evaluation core ▲a fuel cell demonstration core within the Pohang Blue Valley Industrial Complex.
