G7 Leaders to Hold Video Conference Tonight... Discussing Ukraine, Middle East, and AI Issues

The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) will hold a virtual meeting on the 6th to discuss the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as issues related to artificial intelligence (AI).
At a press conference on the morning of the 6th, Hirokazu Matsuno, Chief Cabinet Secretary of the Japanese government, stated, "Prime Minister Fumio Kishida plans to host the G7 leaders' virtual meeting, which will conclude activities as the G7 chair this year." Secretary Matsuno also explained that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to participate in the first half of the meeting.
He added, "Amid the international community facing complex crises, Japan, as the G7 chair this year, has led G7 discussions from two perspectives: maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and enhancing engagement with partners beyond the G7."

He continued, "In today's virtual meeting, we will discuss important international issues such as the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East, and AI, while reviewing the responses so far. We aim to confirm that the G7 will continue to cooperate closely."
