Samsung Electronics Leads NAND Market in Q3... SK Hynix Rises to 2nd Place
Q3 NAND Market Sales Reach $9.2291 Billion
In the third quarter, global NAND flash market sales saw a slight increase, with major companies also experiencing revenue growth. Samsung Electronics maintained its number one market share, while SK Hynix rose one rank from third to second place.
Market research firm TrendForce announced on the 5th that third-quarter NAND market sales reached $9.2291 billion, up 2.9% from the previous quarter. They analyzed that this result occurred as market demand stirred despite all major NAND suppliers reducing production.
In the third quarter, Samsung Electronics recorded sales of $2.9 billion, similar to the previous quarter, while SK Hynix's sales increased by 11.9% to $1.864 billion, and U.S.-based Western Digital's sales rose 13% to $1.556 billion. On the other hand, Japan's Kioxia and U.S. Micron saw sales decline by 8.6% and 5.2%, respectively, recording $1.336 billion and $1.15 billion.
In terms of market share, Samsung Electronics secured 31.4%, solidifying its top position, while there was a change in the ranking of the second-place company. After Japan's Kioxia overtook SK Hynix in the third quarter of last year and maintained second place, SK Hynix reversed the ranking after one year in this third quarter.

TrendForce explained, "Although Kioxia's average selling price (ASP) for NAND rose 3% in the third quarter, delayed customer orders caused bit shipments to decrease by 10-15%, resulting in reduced sales. Meanwhile, the SK Group (including SK Hynix and its subsidiary Solidigm) saw increased demand for high-capacity products in the PC and smartphone sectors, leading to higher bit shipments and increased sales."
