Threatening Drivers While Lost in Delusion and Crashing into Patrol Car... Man in His 50s Arrested and Indicted
A man in his 50s who threatened a driver on the road late at night while lost in delusions and rammed a patrol car that arrived at the scene has been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-nam) announced on the 4th that a man in his 50s, Mr. A, was arrested and indicted on charges of special obstruction of official duties causing injury and special assault.
According to the prosecution, around 12:40 a.m. on the 15th of last month, Mr. A approached Mr. B, a man in his 50s sitting in the driver's seat of a stationary car near Seokchon Station in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and threatened him by showing scissors outside the car window. When Mr. B tried to move away, Mr. A chased him with his own car and rammed Mr. B's vehicle. Mr. A and Mr. B were strangers to each other. Mr. A also rammed the patrol car that arrived at the scene. Mr. B and two police officers who responded sustained injuries requiring 2 to 3 weeks of medical treatment.

It was investigated that Mr. A committed the crime while under delusions that he was being attacked by an unidentified group. He was not driving under the influence, and no history of mental illness was found. A prosecution official stated, "We will do our utmost to maintain the prosecution so that Mr. A, who committed the crime against innocent citizens and police officers without any particular reason, receives a sentence commensurate with his responsibility."
