As Seoul's lowest temperatures remain below freezing and the severe cold continues, convenience store winter snacks that attract consumers are gaining popularity.

Convenience store 7-Eleven announced on the 4th that sales of winter foods such as steamed buns (Hoppang), roasted sweet potatoes, fish cakes (Eomuk), and carp-shaped bread (Bungeoppang) have been on the rise due to the persistent cold weather. During the recent two weeks with a significant temperature drop (November 20 to December 3), sales of Bungeoppang nearly tripled (185%) compared to the same period last month, and instant Eomuk also rose by 150%. Roasted sweet potatoes and Hoppang increased by 85% and 50%, respectively, while heated drinks rose by 35%.
It is analyzed that more consumers are purchasing winter snacks on their way home from work in the cold weather. Looking at the hourly sales share of winter snacks (Bungeoppang, instant Eomuk, roasted sweet potatoes, Hoppang) during the same period, sales between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. accounted for 40% of total sales.
7-Eleven is conducting a 'Differentiated Hot Food Promotion' throughout December, as demand for winter season products begins to increase in earnest. For four types of popular winter foods?Hoppang, roasted sweet potatoes, Eomuk, Bungeoppang?and four types of 7-Select private brand (PB) beverages, a 20% discount is offered when paying with Kakao Pay Money. The heated drinks lineup includes four varieties reflecting diverse consumer preferences: 7-Select Good Coffee Latte, 7-Select Good Coffee Hazelnut, 7-Select London Afternoon Milk Tea, and Ogada The Honey Water.

Meanwhile, 7-Eleven uses high-quality roasted sweet potatoes sourced from Korea's representative sweet potato producing regions such as Haenam, Yeongam, Nonsan, and Yeoju. 7-Eleven explained that before the sweet potatoes are delivered to stores every two weeks, they undergo a strict quality control process including random selection and secondary inspection based on appearance and sugar content. Consumers can also conveniently enjoy Bungeoppang made with domestically produced Korean wheat, and six types of fish cake products are sold, including skewered fish cakes presented together with the premium fish cake brand 'Goraesa Eomuk.'
