Boseong-gun Secures 272.6 Billion Won Budget, 'Highest Growth Rate in Province'
All-Out Effort to Secure National and Provincial Funds, Budget Increase Planned
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that its 2024 main budget proposal increased by 6.11%, recording the highest growth rate among the 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do.
Despite the government's fiscal tightening policy and a decrease in local allocation tax, Boseong-gun secured 272.6 billion KRW in national and provincial subsidies, an increase of 33.1 billion KRW (13.85%) compared to the 2023 main budget, and thus expanded the main budget proposal.
The major increases in national and provincial projects include ▲658 billion KRW for basic pension and livelihood benefit support projects for basic living security ▲4.4 billion KRW for high-quality rice distribution activation projects ▲2.1 billion KRW for tidal flat ecosystem restoration projects ▲4.0 billion KRW for large-scale forest restoration and climate response urban forest creation projects ▲4.9 billion KRW for natural disaster risk improvement district maintenance projects ▲5.3 billion KRW for Beolgyo-eup rural hub activation projects ▲6.0 billion KRW for vulnerable area living condition improvement projects and basic living base projects.
In particular, the water supply and sewage sector budget increased by 23 billion KRW to 81.2 billion KRW, promoting projects such as water pipeline expansion and replacement of aging pipes, water supply modernization, and rural living water development to provide safe and clean water and respond to climate change crises such as drought.
A Boseong-gun official stated, “The increase in national and provincial subsidies seems to be the result of the combined efforts of County Governor Kim Cheol-woo, public officials, and the county council, who frequently visited central government ministries and Jeollanam-do, and actively cooperated with local provincial and national assembly members to secure national and provincial subsidies amid poor local finances.”
Kim Cheol-woo, Governor of Boseong-gun, said, “Although the international economy is difficult due to high interest rates and inflation, and the outlook for local finances is not good due to the government's reduction of local allocation tax, we intend to invest the budget focusing on revitalizing the local economy, protecting socially vulnerable groups, and securing future growth engines. The shortfall in tax revenue will be covered by injecting 150 billion KRW from the financial stabilization fund accumulated so far to successfully complete major pending projects and large-scale projects of the 8th elected administration, leading uninterrupted development of Boseong.”
Meanwhile, the 2024 main budget proposal, totaling 658.1 billion KRW, will be finalized on December 18 after review and approval by the Boseong-gun council.
