Seoul National University and AI Forum Held
HD Hyundai is strengthening industry-academia-research collaboration to secure a super-gap competitiveness in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
On the 30th, HD Hyundai announced that it held the 'HD Hyundai&SNU AI Forum,' an industry-academia-research forum in the AI field, at the Global R&D Center (GRC) with Seoul National University. Attendees included Jung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai, Hong Yoo-seok, Dean of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University, and AI experts from domestic and international industry, academia, and research sectors.
The forum proceeded in two parts: 'Insight,' which enhanced understanding of AI technology overall, and 'Usecase,' which introduced AI technologies in the group’s core businesses. Dr. Debal Pandya, Vice President of the Vector Institute, a world-renowned AI research institution in Canada, delivered the keynote speech on 'The History and Evolution of AI.'
Additionally, AI experts such as Ha Jung-woo, Head of Naver Cloud Center, Professor Yoon Sung-ro of Seoul National University, and Lee Hwa-young, Executive Director of LG AI Research Institute, gave lectures. Kim Young-ok, Executive Director in charge of AI Strategy at HD Hyundai, introduced HD Hyundai’s AI strategy and direction.
In the subsequent Usecase session, presentations on specific AI application cases focused on HD Hyundai’s three core businesses: shipbuilding and marine, construction machinery, and energy. The commercialization status of autonomous ships by Avikus, HD Hyundai’s autonomous navigation specialist company, smart construction machinery and AI utilization plans by HD Hyundai Site Solution, and big data and AI utilization strategies by HD Hyundai Oilbank were discussed.

Jung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai, stated, "Since launching the AI Center in January this year, we have been investing in the AI field at a level different from before," adding, "We will contribute to the advancement of AI technology in domestic manufacturing."
