Hanwha Ocean Submarine Day Held in the Baltic Sea... Targeting the Global Market
Hanwha Ocean is actively targeting the global submarine export market.
On the 29th, Hanwha Ocean held the 'Hanwha Ocean Day' event in Warsaw, Poland, for local media to participate in the Polish Navy submarine modernization project, the 'ORKA Project.' More than 30 major Polish media outlets attended the event, showing great interest in the Jangbogo-III (KSS-III) submarine developed by Hanwha Ocean.
Held under the theme 'KSS-III for Poland,' this event marked Hanwha Ocean's full-scale effort to penetrate the Polish submarine export market. Local journalists attending the event expressed keen interest in the excellence of the Jangbogo-III submarine, Hanwha Ocean's technological competitiveness, as well as industrial cooperation and long-term vision with Poland.
Through the presentation, Hanwha Ocean emphasized that the Jangbogo-III submarine, equipped with differentiated deterrence capabilities such as submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM), is an optimized solution for Poland's security environment. It was also highlighted that the Jangbogo-III submarine, equipped with an Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system and lithium-ion batteries, possesses the world's best underwater endurance among diesel submarines. In particular, journalists attending the event focused on the fact that the Jangbogo-III is a 'proven' submarine, having already demonstrated its top performance through operational deployment by the Republic of Korea Navy.
Additionally, Hanwha Ocean announced that it will provide a maintenance support system (TOMS) to enhance the Polish Navy's submarine maintenance capabilities. This system, developed in-house by Hanwha Ocean, maintains the performance required throughout the submarine's lifecycle, manages repair parts and discontinued components, and supports real-time submarine maintenance.
Seungkyun Jung, Vice President and Head of Hanwha Ocean’s Special Ship Overseas Business Division, stated, "Based on the proven technology and outstanding performance of the Jangbogo-III submarine, Hanwha Ocean will propose the optimal solution desired by the Polish Navy. As the undisputed representative submarine builder of the Republic of Korea, recognized for its top-tier technology, Hanwha Ocean aims to successfully secure the Polish ORKA project and further expand its business footprint worldwide."
The ORKA project is part of the Polish government's naval modernization initiative, involving the acquisition of 2 to 3 new submarines for future naval operations. In May, the Polish government announced plans to conduct a bidding process for submarine procurement within this year.

Hanwha Ocean is currently competing with European countries such as Germany, France, and Sweden, which are traditionally strong in the submarine export sector, for the ORKA project. In the highly challenging European submarine market, Hanwha Ocean plans to overcome its latecomer status by leveraging its operational experience and technological superiority demonstrated by the Republic of Korea Navy, and is committed to winning the ORKA project contract.
