Prosecutors Seek Arrest Warrants for Two Police Officers Involved in 'Case Broker' Scandal
The prosecution has requested arrest warrants for two police officers suspected of colluding with an 'incident broker.'
The Anti-Corruption and Strong Investigation Division of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Jin-ho) announced on the 29th that it has requested a pre-arrest warrant for Police Lieutenant A, affiliated with the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station, on charges of bribery.
A pre-arrest warrant has also been requested for Police Sergeant B, affiliated with the Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, on charges of leaking official secrets.
Lieutenant A is accused of receiving hospitality worth approximately 6 million won from broker Seong Mo (62) during 2020-2021 while serving as the head of the investigation department at the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, and of partially reducing the investigation into a cryptocurrency fraud case involving Seong.
Sergeant B is suspected of leaking investigation details of a related case that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency was investigating separately.
The pre-trial detention hearings for these individuals are scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. on the 30th at the Gwangju District Court.
The prosecution also indicted retired Senior Superintendent C, formerly of the Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, who had been previously detained on charges of violating the Attorney-at-Law Act in connection with requests for investigation favors from broker Seong.
