View original imageSangbong Terminal, which has served as a connection between the eastern part of Seoul and Gangwon Province, will close its doors after operations end on the 30th.
Opened in September 1985, Sangbong Terminal connected various areas in Gangwon such as Hongcheon, Yanggu, Inje, and Wontong. At its peak, it was frequently used by soldiers.
However, after the opening of Dongseoul Terminal in 1990, the number of passengers began to decline sharply, and with the development of express buses and increased convenience of public transportation, the numbers decreased even further. As of October this year, the average daily number of passengers at Sangbong Terminal is only 26.
With its closure imminent, Sangbong Terminal is deserted and the convenience store has shuttered. The ticket office has been closed for a long time, and ticket issuance is now handled by ticket vending machines.
The only remaining route at Sangbong Terminal is the intercity bus bound for Wonju.
