70-Year-Old Monk Booked for Deliberately Ramming 8 Parked Cars Over Redevelopment Compensation Dispute
On the 28th, the Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced that they have booked a man in his 70s, monk A, on charges of damaging vehicles (special property damage).
A is accused of repeatedly ramming eight vehicles parked in an alley near a temple in Songha-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, with his van at around 8:20 a.m. the previous day.
According to the police investigation, A, who resides at a nearby temple, became enraged and committed the act after having a conflict with the construction company over compensation issues for the temple site within the redevelopment zone due to park development.
It is reported that after leaving the temple, A caused the vehicle accident when his child tried to stop him from going to protest to the construction company.
At the time, A was not under the influence of alcohol, and there was no evidence of drug use.
