Pukyong National University Student Wins Best Paper Award at the Korean Society of Ornithology International Symposium
Han Ji-seung, a master's student majoring in Oceanography at the Department of Earth Environmental System Science, Pukyong National University, received the Excellent Paper Award at the 37th International Symposium of the Korean Society of Phycology.
Han Ji-seung was selected for this award due to the outstanding evaluation of his paper presented at the symposium, titled "Study on the Growth and Biochemical Composition Changes of Chlorella vulgaris According to LED Wavelength."
This paper received high praise for revealing the growth and biochemical composition changes of Chlorella vulgaris, which can be utilized in various industries such as food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals through the production of various high value-added useful substances, according to LED wavelength and light intensity.
In this paper, he examined the growth specificity and changes in bioactive substances of wild type and transgenic strains according to LED wavelength and light intensity, finding that both strains showed high growth rates under red wavelengths and promotion of useful biochemical substances such as proteins and lipids under blue wavelengths.
Accordingly, he suggested that a mixed wavelength combining red wavelengths, which achieve high cell density, and blue wavelengths, which enhance useful substance content, could contribute to economic efficiency and increased productivity.
