Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has opened the 'Seongdong Narae Daycare Center' in Majang-dong to support the independence of people with developmental disabilities.
Opened on the 23rd of this month, the Seongdong Narae Daycare Center spans a total area of 330.42㎡, utilizing both the first and second floors. The daycare center is a care institution where adults with developmental disabilities can experience various programs such as rehabilitation and education. It actively reflects the care requests of guardians who hope for meaningful activities tailored to the needs and characteristics of people with developmental disabilities.
The Seongdong Narae Daycare Center is located on the first floor, allowing users to play freely without concerns about noise between floors, and it also features an outdoor yard where they can cultivate a garden. Program rooms are divided by floor to conduct classes suited to the degree and characteristics of the users' disabilities, and a lounge is also provided. People with developmental disabilities (aged 18 to 50) receive educational activities, independence training, and vocational training at the center from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Seongdong-gu has prepared essential daily living training programs for people with developmental disabilities, from eating alone to dressing and using the restroom, to enhance their independence skills. In addition, various experiential special activities such as art, music, and cooking classes are offered. Following the Doseon-dong Together Daycare Center opened in 2022, Seongdong-gu now operates a total of four daycare centers, including the newly opened Seongdong Narae Daycare Center.
Park, who sends and picks up her son to a nearby district’s daycare center due to no available spots in Seongdong-gu, said, "I even considered moving because there were no spots, but I eagerly awaited the opening of the daycare center in Majang-dong. I am very grateful that there is now a facility nearby where I can leave my son on weekdays."
