Yeosu-si Wins 'SNS of the Year' Award
Kakao Channel and Blog Divisions Each Awarded Grand Prize and Excellence Award
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it has been recognized as the best in communication nationwide by consecutively winning the highest honors in the SNS-related field.
Following Yeosu City's 8th consecutive grand prize win at the '13th 2023 Korea SNS Awards' last October, it also won the grand prize and the highest award in the Kakao Channel and Blog categories respectively at the '9th 2023 SNS of the Year.'
The award ceremony for the '9th 2023 SNS of the Year' was held on the 24th at 11 a.m. at the International Conference Hall on the 20th floor of the Korea Press Center located in Jung-gu, Seoul.
According to the city, the 'SNS of the Year' is one of the most prestigious awards in the SNS-related field in Korea, established in 2015 to foster a smooth communication culture in the country.
It is hosted by the Korea Social Content Promotion Association and the Parliamentary Policy Academy, and supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Influencer Industry Association, with the goal of widely promoting companies or institutions actively communicating with the public and establishing a proper SNS usage culture.
Unlike the 'Korea SNS Awards,' which evaluate the entire social network service, this award assesses the usage status of each SNS medium such as blogs, Facebook, Instagram, KakaoStory, and YouTube.
The evaluation consists of a quantitative assessment (40%) measuring how many users recognize and participate in social media activities, and a judges' evaluation (60%) based on content quality, storytelling, activity, and communication.
Previously, the city operated communication channels on major SNS platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, providing specialized and differentiated citizen-participatory content tailored to each channel’s characteristics, including 'Yeosu Story' (6 channels) for city news and 'Healing Yeosu' (8 channels) for tourism, leading efforts to enhance the image of 'Namhaean Hub City, Beautiful Port Yeosu' and improve tourist satisfaction.
The city plans not to be complacent with this achievement but to maximize promotion by planning and discovering content that communicates and empathizes with citizens, and by continuously conducting online and offline events to increase the number of subscribers as much as possible.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, “We will continue to expand citizen-participatory content and strengthen two-way communication to actively engage in communication administration,” adding, “We hope citizens will take more interest in the city’s channels and actively participate.”
