The Digital Tourism Resident Card is a regional tourism revitalization project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization targeting domestic areas with population decline. It is a project aimed at countering the decrease in resident population by expanding the living population through tourism. Those who receive the tourism resident card can use accommodations, dining, viewing, and experience programs in the designated areas at discounted prices.
This project started last year in Gangwon Pyeongchang and Chungbuk Okcheon, and as of November this year, it is operating in 15 regions including Busan Yeongdo, Incheon Ganghwa, Gangwon Jeongseon, Chungbuk Danyang, Chungnam Taean, Jeonbuk Gochang, Jeonnam Sinan, Gyeongbuk Goryeong, Gyeongnam Geochang, Gyeonggi Yeoncheon, Chungbuk Jecheon, Jeonbuk Namwon, and Gyeongnam Hadong. A total of about 270 tourism products are available at discounted prices.
In the case of Pyeongchang, major tourist attractions such as the Lee Hyo-seok Literature Museum and Balwangsan Cable Car offer discount benefits, resulting in the number of Digital Tourism Resident Card holders reaching 67,000, far exceeding the resident population of about 40,000 in the Pyeongchang area.
